Gender Bias Persists in Economies Worldwide

International Development – World Bank Report: Gender Bias Persists in Economies Worldwide.

Such a shame that women still do not receive the same rights as men. The only genetic difference between the sexes is one single chromosome. However, this chromosome does lead to the physical form of women. Women have a womb and breasts, so they are capable of giving birth and caring for children. This intrtinsic characteristic and the hormone system associated with it, is the origin of different behavioural patterns in men and women.

Females have a tendency to plan further ahead because they are more sensitive to the needs of their children. Females have a tendency to be better listeners and more empathic to others. Females have a tendency to be better guardians of nature; after all exploiting nature is not beneficial for the survival of offspring, whereas sustainable use ensures a rich natural environment for current and future generations. Females could shine a completely new light on some of the large issues we are dealing with worldwide, but also in local contexts.

Especially in times like this, with immense problems affecting this generation and generations to come, we need the full potential of humankind to find new solutions and new systems for organizing society. I am not surprised that the article mentions that  ‘the world’s most competitive economies are those where the opportunity gap between women and men is the narrowest’.  These economies make use of the full 100% work force in the country, and the full 100% potential strategies and solutions in people’s minds to address problems.

Mother earth and its inhabitants have suffered a lot from the centuries-long masculine domination, with financial crises and an illogical economic system, climate change, a rapid loss of biodiversity and a large wealth-gap between north and south as a consequence. When will humankind open its eyes to the creative potential of half of the world’s population, and ensure that this half can fully take part in society and the creation of solutions to the problems it faces?
